Naked Britain

Naked Britain is a highly personal photographic project which has grown in concept, content and colour since its beginning in 2005.

Naked Britain is a documenting project that looks at 'the self' and the self’s relationship to and with-in society. The representation of 'the self’ comes alive with an element of shedding the garments, the layers whilst exposing authentic identity – as if it is a vital part of acceptance. This is a documenting project, which takes a look at ‘the self’ as a raw individual as well as their response to society.

Before, during and after taking part in this shedding, many times results in a healing process depending on why and where my models have chosen to represent themselves. It could be past trauma, a childhood memory, a disability, a physical disfigurement, an escape from a white collared conservative daily routine,  or simply someone who no longer wishing to pay much emphasis on the pressures and expectations that go within British society, but rather begin to process 'the self' for who they really are beneath the layers.

A forensic officer who has dealt with death daily whilst gathering forensic evidence now lays herself on the mortuary table. Another person with paraplegia, who has taken part in Naked Britain, expresses how grateful he is for the body he has been given, scars and all. Alex the intersex born with ambiguous gender, also known as a hermaphrodite, exposes his nakedness with snails equally intersex in the animal kingdom—known for having both female and male sex. And, to accompany his image he writes his very heartfelt experiences of his life. Whilst expressing vulnerability and strength all at once - within the context of great empowerment.

Naked Britains’ have been honoured with their own dedicated website . They have given so much to me and I in turn would like to give to you, by sharing my body of work.

I present to you Naked Britain on the link below.

NAKED BRITAIN

A Journey into “Self” and “Awareness”

(by ZigZag Films)

It all began early in 2005 and has continued to grow strong. My volunteers are shedding as they express their raw state of being; a journey into the “self” and “awareness”
