Anastasia Trahanas, The Photographer
Anastasia Trahanas was born in Melbourne, Australia and later, after much travel, made her home in the UK.
From the age of twelve, she looked through her camera, documenting her life and the life around her.
Having a zest for life and meeting new people drives her photography to constantly move forward, to capture what lies beneath the street, as well as beneath our skin.
What feeds her photographic eye is her deep interest in challenging the boundaries whilst steering away from the so-called 'normal' that societies inculcate within us.
Her questioning drives and gravitates her to photographing the marginalized, stigmatized and vulnerable - turning her representation into a positive image.
"Isn't vulnerability a pure, honest state of being"?
“A concept of it being a weakness, yet, it gives us a connection to ourselves and truly becomes a strength - somewhat empowering”.
She has exhibited her photography internationally and is recognized for the ongoing project she began in 2005, Naked Britain, which has also opened up to Naked Australia.
Her other work, "Photographing the Female," consists mainly of black and white female nudes that span from her youth to the present.
She has also documented the orthodox church, Roma people, and street and travel photography of many travelled countries.
Anastasia has qualifications in photography, social anthropology, is an educator and has a Master in visual anthropology.
"I am a photographer who uses the camera as a tool to communicate as well as learn much about myself and the world around me. I am humbled and honoured to share my many years of photographic work with an audience who are not afraid to be challenged.”
